A fire badly damaged the first floor of a house in Albany Street, Douglas, on Wednesday.

Crews were called out at about 4.40pm. A smoke alarm alerted the residents.

By the time firefighters got there, the blaze had already taken hold on the first floor and was well alight.

Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus used both high pressure hose reels and jets to control and extinguish the fire.

They said that they were able to prevent it spreading because they were called early.

Thermal imaging cameras were used to check for hot spots and firefighters stayed there for three hours.
