The fire service has urged people to warn them when they are planning controlled burns.

Controlled burning is a fire set intentionally for purposes of forest management, farming, prairie restoration or greenhouse gas abatement.

In a statement online it said it has attended a number of controlled burns due to the emergency services joint control room not being informed of the burn taking place.

The fire service asked that anyone planning a controlled burn remember to contact the emergency services joint control room on 697327, ensure the burn is controlled and not likely to spread, have a form of extinguishing material and put thought into the location and smoke drift.
