A fisherman who punched a television set during a row has been put on probation for 12 months.
Ian Derek Brown, of Barrule Drive, Douglas, admitted damaging property and was also ordered to pay £200 compensation for the TV.
Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court how 39-year-old Brown was at a woman’s address on May 31 at 11.45pm.
She asked him to turn some music down but he responded by swearing and saying: ’Can I not just listen to one song?’
Brown was then said to have thrown a bottle out of a window before punching the 32-inch flatscreen television and breaking it.
He then picked it up and tried to throw it out of the window but was unable to.
Brown then took it to the front door and threw it out into the hall.
He was subsequently arrested and during a police interview answered ’no comment’ to questions but did say: ’I did not break the TV.’
A probation report said that Brown had been struggling with mental health issues but had a good work record.
The report said that he had been receiving assistance and that a short period of probation would be beneficial.
Defence advocate Paul Rodgers said: ’Mr Brown has long-standing mental health issues.
’But despite his problems he has always managed to work hard.’
Magistrates also ordered Brown to pay £125 prosecution costs.
