Four more people have appeared in court in connection with a mobile phone being smuggled into the prison.

The Examiner this week reported that prison officer Robert Sewell, aged 29, of Lhoobs Road, Eairy, had been charged with conspiring to bring a phone to an inmate who was on remand.

On Tuesday, two men and two women appeared in court alleged to have been involved in the same conspiracy.

Katie Michelle Smith, aged 29, of Sumark Avenue, Anagh Coar, Jamie Mark Smith, aged 32, of Maple Avenue, Onchan, Francis Richard Dunne, aged 35, of Burlington Street, Vauxhall, Liverpool, and Daniella Louise Steventon, aged 33, of Tynwald Terrace, Douglas, are all charged with conspiring with others to bring an article, namely a mobile phone, to the prison.

Ms Smith and Mr Smith, who are brother and sister, are also charged with entering into an arrangement involving £1,500 in cash.

Mr Dunne is also charged with causing another to introduce an article, namely a mobile phone, to the prison.

The case was adjourned until next week to tie-in with the next appearance of Mr Sewell who was granted bail on Saturday.

Ms Smith and Ms Steventon have been granted bail in the sum of £500 with conditions that they live at their home address, not contact witnesses, not enter the prison, and not leave the island without court permission.

Mr Smith and Mr Dunne are currently being held on remand in relation to drug-trafficking charges which they have denied.
