A 14-year-old who allegedly brandished a knife at another pupil at a school will appear in juvenile court today (Wednesday).
Last week, he was remanded to a secure unit after being refused bail.
The teenager, who cannot be named due to his age, appeared before magistrates sitting as a juvenile court last week.
He is charged with threatening unlawful violence and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that the incident had occurred on February 12 at 10.50am. The boy allegedly produced the knife during an argument with another pupil and chased him with it, before being persuaded by teachers to put the knife down.
After being arrested, the boy told police that people were winding him up and calling him names.
Defence advocate Kate Alexander made an application for bail, which was opposed by Mr Swain.
Ms Alexander said that this was her client’s first contact with the police and there had been no suggestion of a random attack.
The court heard that he is suspended from school as a result of the allegation.
