A teenager has been sentenced after being caught with ecstasy tablets in her bra.

Charlotte Louise Roney, of Hillside Avenue, Douglas, has been ordered to do 80 hours of community service after admitting possession of ecstasy and cannabis at Noble’s Hospital.

We previously reported how, at 2.05am on May 24, police were called to Merton Bank in Douglas after reports of a disturbance between 18-year-old Roney and her ex-partner.

Her ex had injured his arm so the pair both went to the hospital.

Once there, they began arguing loudly, shouting and swearing.

Due to Roney’s behaviour police searched her and found 79 grams of cannabis said to be worth £417. Roney then pulled a package out of her bra which was found to contain 12 ecstasy tablets with a street value of between £120 and £180.

At this week’s appearance before the Deputy High Bailiff, defence advocate David Reynolds that the offence had occurred while Roney was under the influence of alcohol.

’There was an argument at the hospital and police became involved. The relationship has ended.

He added: ’Unfortunately. as a result of this offence, and her position as a shop assistant being in close proximity to a school, she has lost that employment.’

Mr Reynolds went on to say that a probation report had described Roney as ’young, naive and impressionable’.

’She does have mental health issues. She said she was a regular user of cannabis at the time and has been receiving help from the Drug and Alcohol Team, engaging on a fortnightly basis.’

The court heard that Roney has no previous convictions.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told the teenager: ’The offence is made more serious by the fact you were in possession of the drugs at a hospital.

’You suggested you were looking after them for your partner but you are the person in court today taking the rap for it.’

Mrs Hughes sentenced Roney to 80 hours’ community service for possession of ecstasy and 40 hours for cannabis possession, to run concurrently.

She must also pay £125 prosecution costs.
