Stephen Michael Creer, aged 21, of Malew Street, Castletown, has been fined £850 for driving without insurance and having a defective tyre.

Magistrates also ordered him to pay £300 prosecution costs and endorsed his licence with 10 points.

Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that police were called to Alexander Road in Castletown on April 25 last year at 2.40am.

A single vehicle accident had occurred and Creer and another man were found in the car which had crashed into a wall at the junction with Milner Terrace.

When interviewed Creer answered ’no comment’ to all questions.

The front nearside tyre of the car was found to be devoid of tread.

Defence advocate Deborah Myerscough said that her client had insurance for another vehicle but not the one involved in the crash.

Ms Myerscough said that Creer was not driving when the car crashed but he had driven the vehicle earlier.

He was said to have passed his test in October 2019 and still be on ’R’ plates.

Magistrates fined Creer £650 for driving without insurance and £200 for the defective tyre.

His ’R’ plate period was also extended by six months.

He will pay the fine and costs at a rate of £15 per week deducted from benefits.
