A heavy goods vehicle steered off the road and into Fairy Bridge on Friday.

Fire, ambulance and police crews attended the scene at 3.30pm.

The vehicle had two occupants, one of whom was able to exit the vehicle but the second was trapped due to their injuries.

Douglas and Castletown fire crews worked with the ambulance to create enough space using hydraulic equipment so that the casualty could be safely removed from the vehicle.

Crews were there for about an hour but the road was closed for a number of hours to ensure the vehicle could be safely removed.

The incident caused organisers to cancel the first stage of the Manx National Rally that day.

Competitors would have headed towards Keristal and involved a section of the Old Castletown Road, which was used to divert traffic around the scene of the collision.

Instead, the rally started on stage two on the Mount Murray Back Road.
