A 22-year-old Douglas man has been fined £400 for driving without insurance.
Kaylem Watterson, of Marathon Road, admitted the offence and also had his licence endorsed with eight points.
Prosecuting advocate Rachael Braidwood told the court that police stopped Watterson while he was driving a Ford Focus on the Old Castletown Road on December 15 at 12.15am. He was given five days to produce documents but the following day he told police he was not insured.
Watterson said that he had thought he was insured but his former partner had cancelled the policy.
The court heard that he has a previous caution for driving without insurance in 2019.
Defence advocate Emily Johnson said: ’Mr Watterson appreciates the previous police caution does not look good. His ex-partner was paying the insurance and he hadn’t appreciated she cancelled it when they parted. He rectified it immediately and has learned his lesson.’
Magistrates also ordered Watterson to pay £50 prosecution costs. He will pay the fine and costs at a rate of £20 per week.
