A 33-year-old Douglas man has appeared in court after admitting importing £1,252-worth of cannabis to the island in the post.
Thomas Alfred Arthur Kneale, of Buck’s Road, had his case adjourned previously to allow time for the prosecution to consider a basis of plea after he had admitted the production charge.
Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that a package addressed to Kneale was intercepted at the Post Office sorting office on July 14 last year.
When opened it was found to contain two vacuum sealed packages.
One contained 55.7 grams of cannabis, valued at £1,114, while the second contained 6.9 grams, valued at £138.
Police arrested Kneale at his home and he said: ’I don’t know anything about any production.’
A search of his home found cannabis branded snap bags.
When interviewed Kneale claimed that he had no idea why the package had been sent to him, saying he had not ordered it or agreed to accept it.
He told police he had used cannabis a couple of years ago and kept the branded bags as a memory of the past.
Ms Cubbon said that part of the basis of plea was accepted but a part in which Kneale said he didn’t expect any benefit from the drugs was not accepted.
The case was adjourned until June 8 when sentencing will take place.
Bail was granted with conditions that he live at his home address, contact probation, and not leave the island without court consent.
