A woman who attacked another woman in a jealous rage at a Douglas nightclub has been sentenced to community service.

Alexandra Ross threw the woman to the ground, punched her and tore out her hair after she saw her talking to her boyfriend.

After pleading guilty to common assault, magistrates sentenced Ross, to 80 hours community service and ordered her to pay £500 compensation to her victim.

The 25-year-old was also banned from entering licensed premises and purchasing or being sold alcohol for three months.

We previously reported that the victim was downstairs in the Bordello club on Loch Promenade on April 30 at 1.30am talking to Ross’s boyfriend.

Ross saw them talking and was said to have run at the woman, throwing her onto the floor, straddling her and hitting her about the head a number of times, and pulling her hair.

Doorstaff pulled Ross off and she was ejected from the club but continued to remonstrate with her partner.

When police arrived, Ross, who lives in Marina Road, Douglas, was found on Loch Promenade and said to be slurring her words and drunk.

After being arrested, during a police interview she said she could remember being on the floor with the woman but could not remember how it started.

Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain said that the victim had suffered reddening to her face and small bald patch.

Defence advocate David Clegg said that his client had no previous offences for violence and this had been out of character.

’It was undoubtedly a serious assault by a lady who deeply regrets her actions,’ said the advocate.

’She is a hardworking young lady who runs a food service business with her partner. She is a young lady who is well thought of by her contemporaries in the industry.

’She accepted that she had far too much to drink. We would suggest this has been a wake-up call.’

Mr Clegg went on to ask for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea.

A probation report recommended a period of community service as the most appropriate sentence which Mr Clegg urged the court to follow.

Ross was said to have self-referred to Motiv8.

Magistrates chair David Craine told Ross: ’This was a particularly nasty attack brought on quite clearly by alcohol. We are pleased you have self-referred to Motiv8.’

Ross was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs and will pay at a rate of £100 per month.
