Douglas coastguard has released information about an incident in which a jet skier was taken to hospital.
The alert happened shortly after 1pm this afternoon when the coastguard were called to reports of a jet skier in difficulty just off Douglas Promenade in the Loch Prom area.
A spokesman said: ’When we arrived on scene we were met with an injured jet skier who members of the public had managed to help out to safety after his jet ski had broken down causing him and his ski to be thrown against the sea wall injuring him.’
The coastguard used their spinal board and stretcher for the transfer of the casualty by their landrover to an ambulance waiting at the sea terminal to assess and transfer the casualty to hospital.
The spokesman added: ’While all of this was happening we requested Douglas Lifeboat to launch to recover the abandoned jet ski and also check an object in the water near to where the incident had happened.
’We were then made aware of another jet ski that had also broken down and had beached on the foreshore in the Empress Hotel area which we recovered off the beach back to its owner.’
Police set up traffic management during the incident and the Marine Operations Centre co-ordinated a ’multi-agency incident at multiple locations on Douglas Promenade.’
The condition of the injured jet skier is as yet not confirmed.
