A 22-year-old man who kicked a car damaging it during a row has been convicted of property damage.

Kieran Michael Cain, of Empire Terrace, Douglas, admitted the offence and will be sentenced on January 19 after a probation report has been completed.

Prosecuting advocate Rachael Braidwood told the court that Cain was walking on Church Road Marina in Douglas on November 25 at 4pm.

He was with a friend who was said to have attacked another man during a row.

Cain then became involved in a verbal altercation and asked the man: ’Is this your car?’

He then kicked the door causing damage before trying to run off only to be detained until police arrived.

He was said to be smelling of alcohol and police reported that he was intoxicated.

When interviewed at police headquarters Cain admitted kicking the car.

The court heard that he has a number of previous convictions, including several for property damage.

Defence advocate David Clegg asked for a probation report to be completed before sentencing as his client is subject to a combination order imposed in September after he punched a man in a restaurant.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with conditions that Cain live at his home address, contact probation, and not leave the island without court consent.
