An L-plate driver who crashed her uninsured car into the back of another vehicle at traffic lights has been fined £1,020.
Wenyuan Kang, of Hawarden Avenue, Douglas, appeared in court with the assistance of an interpreter and admitted careless driving, having no insurance, and a licence offence.
Magistrates also endorsed the 37-year-old’s licence with eight points.
Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court how the accident occurred at Anagh Coar traffic lights on November 23 at 1.10pm.
Mr Swain said that the complainant slowed down as a bus went through the lights but was then driven into from behind by Kang.
Records showed that she only held a provisional licence but was not supervised and was displaying no ’L’ plates.
The court heard that she has a full Chinese licence and had passed her Manx test since the offence.
When interviewed Kang told police she had not really understood the provisional licence.
Defence advocate Michael Mudge said: ’This was an unfortunate lapse of concentration which could happen to many of us.
’Ms Kang has been driving in China for four years without any incident, which one might say is impressive given the level of traffic there.
’She understands it is her responsibility to find out the provisional restrictions.’
Magistrates also ordered her to pay £50 prosecution costs which she will pay along with the fine at a rate of £200 per month.
