A Douglas man has been fined £1,000 and banned from driving for two years after he rode his motorbike on New Year’s Day after drinking.
Dale Morrey-Parsons, of Hildesley Road, failed a breathalyser test with a reading of 68 - the legal limit is 35 - after being arrested in McDonald’s car park.
As well as drink-driving the 29-year-old also admitted property damage after biting a pillow in a police cell, failing to exhibit a tax disc, and driving without ’L’ plates.
He was fined a further £170 for those offences and also ordered to pay £30 compensation for the pillow.
Magistrates banned him for two years with an order to retake his test at the end of the ban.
Prosecuting advocate James Robinson told the court how police saw Morrey-Parsons riding a Yamaha 125 motorbike on Peel Road at 1.40am on New Year’s Day. They were concerned about his riding and spoke to him after he pulled into McDonald’s car park.
He was said to be smelling of alcohol and slurring his words.
When asked if he had been drinking he said that he had ’had a couple’.
After failing the roadside breathalyser test he was arrested and taken to police headquarters where he produced the further reading of 68.
A vehicle check found that he was not displaying the correct tax disc on his bike and was not displying ’L’ plates despite only holding a provisional licence.
He then bit a hole in a pillow while being held in a cell.
The court heard that he has no previous convictions.
Defence advocate Paul Glover said: ’Mr Morrey-Parsons is remorseful over the damage. He was distressed at the situation and simply took out his frustrations on the pillow.’
Magistrates ordered Morrey-Parsons to pay £125 prosecution costs and retake his test at the end of the ban.
He will pay the fine, compensation and costs at a rate of £50 per month.
