Fire crews from three stations were called to deal with a large blaze in the north of the island on Saturday night.

Shortly after 11pm, crews from Kirk Michael, Douglas and Ramsey were called to the fire in an open space on Bernahara Road in Andreas.

On arrival, fire fighters discovered a large fire involving waste materials. Due to the remote location, a water relay was established to deliver water and the water bowser from Douglas was also mobilised.

The fire was contained and extinguished after two hours by crews wearing breathing apparatus and using two jet hoses.

At present, the fire service said investigations into the cause of the blaze are still ongoing.
