Volunteers at Peel RNLI had a late shout last night to assist the Coastguard with an incident on the beach below Peel Headlands.

Under the command of Peel Coxswain Juan Owens, the all-weather relief lifeboat Mary Margaret was launched just before 11pm.

The sea was calm but with big swells on a rising tide.

Once on scene, volunteer crew members Matt Corlett and Jason Spooner used the lifeboat’s small dingy to reach a group reported to be in difficulty on the beach.

One casualty was transferred to the lifeboat which then returned to Peel Breakwater where an ambulance crew was waiting.

Peel Coastguard assisted others to safety up the headlands.
