A learner driver who made the ’foolish’ decision to drive unsupervised has been fined after losing control of her car.
Charlotte Megan Gatt, aged 20, of Victoria Crescent, caused almost £6,000-worth of damage after crashing in Douglas on April 3.
She hit a wall and lamppost while on the TT course in Onchan between Signpost Corner and Bedstead Corner, near to the junction with Hailwood Avenue.
It caused her Audi to spin 180 degrees into the opposite carriageway and lost a wheel in the process.
At Douglas Courthouse on Thursday Gatt admitted driving without due care and attention, disobeying the terms of her provisional licence and having no insurance.
The court heard she’d taken the decision to move her vehicle to her home address by herself at around 5.30pm. The car wasn’t displaying L-plates.
Gatt’s advocate, Peter Taylor, told the court she’d applied the brakes ’too harshly’ going into the bend.
Mr Taylor added: ’It was a very poor decision and one that is very costly.’
He confirmed the vehicle - which was bought under a hire purchase agreement - had been written off.
The advocate added: ’That will be another reminder to her to drive more carefully in the future.’
Describing Gatt’s actions as ’foolish’ magistrates fined her £750 and ordered her to pay £50 in prosecution costs.
Her licence was endorsed with eight penalty points.
