Douglas lifeboat were called out today to aid a fishing boat which had suffered engine failure.

Crews were paged at about 11.50am to assist the nine metre vessel which had one crewman on board.

The fishing boat had left Douglas harbour an hour earlier and had reached Onchan Head when its engine overheated and stopped.

The crewman contacted the Coastguard via his radio and the lifeboat Marine Engineer was dispatched.

With winds gusting from force five to seven and a heavy swell across the bay, the lifeboat found the fishing boat quickly.

After checking the fisherman was well, the lifeboat towed the fishing boat back to Douglas.
