A 22-year-old Douglas man has admitted possessing magic mushrooms and causing cumulative damage to a flat he lived at over a year.

Callum Michael O’Connor pleaded guilty to having 29.73 grams of the class ’A’ drug and will be sentenced on October 26 after a probation report has been prepared.

Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court that the drug was found at a flat at Kingswood Grove in Douglas, where O’Connor was living, on October 14 last year and was psilocybin mushrooms, valued by police at between £148 and £297.

O’Connor had previously pleaded not guilty to the property damage charge, which took place between January 13, 2020, and January 13, 2021, at the same address, but on Tuesday changed his plea to guilty.

It is alleged that damage caused to the flat was valued at £12,325.

Defence advocate Louise Cooil said that a basis of plea would be entered before sentencing but it was accepted that the damage amounted to 13 holes in walls.

Ms Cooil asked for a probation report to be prepared before sentencing as O’Connor, who now lives at Buck’s Road, has relevant previous convictions.

Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks accepted summary court jurisdiction.

Bail continues in the sum of £500 with conditions to live at his home address and to contact probation.
