This was the dramatic scene as firefighters were called out to deal with a major gorse fire in Druidale this morning (Tuesday).

Kirk Michael and Ramsey crews, mobilised at about 11.30am, accessed the scene of fire using Pinzgauer 6x6 off-road vehicles.

Efforts were made to prevent the fire from spreading further up the hillside. Hose reels and beaters were used to extinguish the fire.

Fire crews were in attendance for about five hours.

Those who are considering carrying out a controlled burn are urged to contact the emergency services joint control room beforehand on 697327.

’Consider the weather and look for any forecasted changes which may have an impact such as increasing wind strength or change of direction,’ a Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said.
