A 22-year-old man has appeared in court charged with raping a woman at gunpoint in Port Erin.

Toby Wood, of Edremony, Port Erin, was arrested on November 7.

He is yet to enter a plea to the offence which can only be heard at the Court of General Gaol Delivery.

Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that it is alleged that Mr Wood held a gun to the back of the woman’s neck after jumping in the back seat of her car.

He is then accused of forcing her to drive to the Ballamaddrell estate near his home in Port Erin before walking her to a field near Rushen Football Club and raping her.

Mr Wood was represented in court by advocate David Reynolds who said that his client denies having a gun and claims that sex was consensual.

The case was adjourned until November 17.

An application for bail by Mr Wood was refused by Deputy High Bailiff Chris Arrowsmith and he is remanded in custody.
