John Edward Corran, aged 74, of Edmund Chadwick Grove, Douglas, appeared in court this week via video link from the prison charged with rape and attempted rape.
The offences can only be heard at the Court of General Gaol Delivery.
They are alleged to have been committed between December 1982 and March 1994.
He is also charged with two counts of indecent assault on a child and five counts of indecent assault on a woman, alleged to have been committed between December 1982 and March 1997.

The case was adjourned until December 15 when it will be committed to the higher court.
Mr Corran is yet to enter any pleas to the charges.
No bail application was made and he is remanded in custody.
