A 20-year-old man has been handed a suspended sentence after admitting having sex with two 15-year-old girls and indecently assaulting one of them.

Frederick James Buxton was also put on the Sex Offender Register for five years.

Buxton was 16 himself when the first incident of unlawful sexual intercourse took place and 18 or 19 when the second offence occurred.

He was said to have made the girls endure ’rough’ sex.

The victims described engineering apprentice Buxton as ’controlling’ and ’manipulative’.

complaint

Prosecuting advocate Hazel Caroon told the court that the first girl made a complaint against Buxton when she was 17.

She said that she had met him at cadets and that they had sex when she was 15 and he was 16, nearly 17.

The second complainant said that she had met Buxton at a job fair when she was 15 and he was 18 or 19.

She said he had then contacted her on social media and they had met again a couple of days later.

She said Buxton drove her to Douglas Head and had tried to force her to commit a sex act.

When Buxton, who lives in Grove Mount, Ramsey, was arrested he handed in a prepared statement denying the allegations.

However, he then admitted to having sex with both girls when they were 15 and claimed they had probably reported him in revenge after there had been cheating in their relationships.

Victim impact statements were read out from both girls.

The first said that she had suffered panic attacks and that Buxton had a key to her house which he would not return which meant her mother had changed the locks.

She said she had messaged him to ask for the key back but he had responded using vulgar language.

The girl said that she found some social situations daunting as some people would point her out and accuse her of lying.

She said she had seen Buxton with other girls who would give her ’dirty looks’ and that she would get anxious about what might happen.

The second girl said her life had been ’turned upside down’ as a result of what happened and that she had been diagnosed with severe depression. She said she had been using Xanax and Valium and avoiding places that she had been to with Buxton.

A probation report questioned whether Buxton had accepted full responsibility for his actions.

consent

Defence advocate David Clegg stressed that Buxton was not charged with any offences relating to consent. Mr Clegg said it was accepted that the girls were too young to give consent but had entered into the acts voluntarily.

The advocate said that Buxton’s new partner was in court to support him.

’The first girl was Mr Buxton’s first sexual partner,’ said Mr Clegg.

’We would ask the court to draw distance between someone more experienced and therefore able to engage in a more predatory manner.’

Mr Clegg went on to say that if Buxton was sent to jail he would have very little supervision after his release whereas if he was given a suspended sentence he could be under supervision for a long period.

He continued: ’We would suggest the risk of reoffending is low. Mr Buxton is not associating with teenage girls anymore.’

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes sentenced Buxton to eight months in custody, suspended for two years.

Mrs Hughes cited grounds to suspend as Buxton’s lack of previous convictions, his age, his guilty pleas, and the issue of him being supervised.

He was also ordered to pay £1,000 compensation to one girl and £500 to the other, along with £125 costs. He will pay all amounts at a rate of £400 per month.
