A teenager has admitted committing a burglary at the Co-op in Ramsey and possessing cannabis.

Morgan John Ritchie stole a bottle of vodka from the Christian Street store and was caught on a bus with £198 worth of the class ’B’ drug.

Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court how, on August 7 at 5am, night staff were working at the Co-op while it was closed.

One staff member was outside on a break when he said Ritchie, who is 18, approached him and asked if he could use his phone to call a taxi.

The man told Ritchie, who is currently residing at Tromode House, that he had no credit and the teenager walked off.

Ritchie, who was with another male, was then seen talking on a phone.

The staff member went back into the Co-op but at 5.12am Ritchie entered the shop and was seen on CCTV footage putting a 70cl bottle of vodka under his jumper before leaving.

He was later arrested and when interviewed by police handed in a prepared statement claiming he had been allowed to enter the shop but making no comment on the theft of the vodka.

On October 13 police were called to the number three bus on Glencrutchery Road in Douglas after receiving a report of a drug deal taking place on it.

Police boarded the vehicle and Ritchie was identified.

He told police he had ’weed’ in his pocket and produced 6.6 grams of cannabis, later valued by police at £198.

During an interview the teenager admitted possessing the drug but said he had no intent to supply.

Defence advocate Jane Gray asked for an adjournment until November 30 when Ritchie is due to appear in summary court regarding other matters.

Bail continues in the sum of £500 with conditions to reside at Tromode House, and not enter Ramsey Co-op.
