A man has admitted drug trafficking, saying he ordered the cannabis for his ill wife.

Ivan Muzik, of Marathon Drive, Douglas, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the production of cannabis to the island, possessing cannabis with intent to supply, and possessing cannabis.

Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that police executed a search warrant at Muzik’s home on March 27 at 11.30pm.

Twenty snap bags containing the drug, valued at £393, were found in a tub while two further quantities, valued at £15.98 and £8, were found in a bedroom.

Police then searched a vehicle and found a six bars of cannabis worth £3,475.

When interviewed, Muzik accepted that all the drugs were his and admitted that he was a heavy user but said that he did not supply it. He told police that he had paid a friend who came over for motorcycling to bring it over for him.

Mr Swain said that there was a dispute over whether Muzik was supplying the drug commercially or only supplying it to his ill wife for medicinal purposes.

The court heard that he has a previous conviction in 2008 for cannabis possession.

Defence advocate Stephen Wood said that a basis of plea was being prepared and that a letter had been received from a doctor regarding the health of Muzik’s wife.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes adjourned the case until December 10 when it will be decided if the basis of plea is accepted or a Newton Hearing to settle the disputed facts will be necessary.

Bail continues.
