A man sustained critical injuries at the weekend - but how he got them is a mystery.

The 48-year-old was hurt sometime between 11.30pm on Saturday and 4pm on Sunday.

Police say that they think E he walked along the Villa Marina colonnade in Douglas in the direction of the Palace Cinema around 11.30pm on Saturday.

He was later found close to the Marlborough Court apartments at the junction of the promenade and Empress Drive around 4pm the following day.

He was transferred to Noble;s Hospital where he was taken to the intensive therapy unit as a result of him having sustained serious head and chest injuries.

His condition remains critical and his family are aware.

Police say that the cause is unexplained.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who saw him to make contact with them.

The man is described as being white skinned, about 5ft 11ins tall, of medium build and clean shaven with short black hair.

He was wearing a black North Face Puffa jacket, with a red and black Liverpool FC zipped jumper underneath, black jeans and black Adidas trainers with bright red/orange soles.
