A 31-year-old Douglas man was this week fined £275 after pleading guilty to being drunk and disorderly.
Tony Edward Kaneen, of Coronation Terrace, was also ordered by magistrates to pay £125 prosecution costs.
Prosecutor Michael Jelski told the court how, on June 3 at 2.30am, Kaneen was asked to leave the Nag’s Head pub in Victoria Street.
However, he refused and staff approached police to ask for assistance.
Police reiterated the request and Kaneen walked off but then turned and raised his middle finger on both hands.
He was again spoken to and told to go home by police.
Kaneen agreed to, saying: ’I’ll just go home and sleep it off,’ before heading along Duke Street.
However, 10 minutes later saw him again heading back towards the Nag’s Head.
He was spoken to again but began swearing at police telling them where to go.
As he was arrested he was said to have been passive resistant and it took two officers to handcuff him as he swore and shouted: ’Get those cuffs off me.’
Defence advocate Stephen Wood said that his client had been through a difficult time having to give up college to care for a relative who had then passed away.
’He regrets he has let himself down,’ said Mr Wood. ’He is embarrassed to be here.’
