A 21-year-old Onchan man has been fined £400 for being drunk and disorderly.

Ryan Christopher Shimmin, of Main Road, admitted the offence and was also banned from entering licensed premises for six months.

The court heard that Shimmin was ejected from 1886 bar in Regent Street, Douglas, on February 14 at 2.10am.

Police asked him to move away from the area and he was said to be unsteady on his feet, smelling of alcohol, and loudly vocalising his objections, swearing and shouting: ’Get away from me.’

He then tried to run off but fell over and was eventually arrested.

It was said that Shimmin received a caution in March 2020 for a similar matter.

Defence advocate Paul Glover asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea.

Mr Glover said: ’This simply was a case of having too much alcohol but a valuable lesson has been learned by this young man about the consequences of drinking too much.

’He knows he should have just kept his mouth shut and gone home.’

Magistrates also ordered him to pay £125 prosecution costs which he will pay, along with the fine, at a rate of £250 per month.
