A man who had a row with a mother has been fined.

Jamie Benjamin Cowell, aged 34, of Malew Street, Castletown, was fined £400 by magistrates.

He admitted an offence of provoking behaviour and was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.

The incident happened on July 10 when Cowell went to his mother’s home after he had been drinking.

He was said to have got into an argument with her and became verbally abusive and made threats.

Police arrived at the home and he was also abusive to officers before being arrested.

A probation report said that Cowell had a long history of alcohol dependency and that he was waiting to start a detox program.

Defence advocate Ian Kermode said: ’Although there were threats no-one was harmed and no property was damaged.

’There are similar previous convictions but the last is in 2014.

’He has been working well with Motiv8.

’He went through a period of abstinence for five months and we would ask the court to treat this as a relapse. The trigger for the offence was a bereavement.’

Cowell appeared before the court on Thursday.

He will pay the fine and costs at a rate of £10 per week deducted from benefits.
