A 29-year-old man from Ramsey has pleaded guilty to a breach of Covid-19 regulations.
Stephen Binding, of Mooragh Promenade, appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes on Monday.
He was arrested for breaching lockdown regulations, leaving his flat on January 16 to walk to numerous other premises’ gardens on Mooragh Promenade and looking into people’s cars.
The court heard that Binding had been found with tool boxes and alcohol and admitted during his police interview that he had left his flat with the intention of stealing.
A report from a mental health nurse who had spoken to the defendant before proceedings determined that he was not experiencing any mental health crisis, despite Binding’s claims that, if he was sentenced to custody, he would try to take his own life.
Mrs Hughes sentenced the defendant to eight weeks in custody, stating: ’You left your address and did so, not for any lawful purpose, but specifically for an unlawful purpose, as you said that you had the intention of stealing.
’You put yourself and others who you came into contact with at risk.’
