A Douglas man has admitted possessing more than 3,000 indecent images of children.

Jonathan Heard, aged 46, of Loch Promenade, had previously pleaded guilty to four counts of possessing indecent images and the case was adjourned while police examined devices owned by him.

On Tuesday, he admitted four more counts of the same offences after prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon said the police analysis of his devices was now complete.

In total, 2,924 indecent still images of children and 184 moving images have been found. The images have been categorised using the Copine scale which measures their severity from one to five, with five being the most severe.

Ms Carroon said that, of the 2,924 still images, 160 are at level four and four at level five. Of the 184 video images, 98 are at level four and two at level five.

The prosecutor said that the case was too serious for summary court and should be committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery for sentencing.

Jane Gray, representing Heard, agreed the case should go to the higher court.

Heard made no application for bail and will be sentenced at the Court of General Gaol Delivery on a date to be set.
