A man found with just £5 of cannabis has been prosecuted.

Ryan Ali Mahmoud El Meligy, aged 22, of Castle Street, Douglas, admitted possessing the drug after he was searched on October 7.

He must do 60 hours of unpaid work and pay £125 costs.

Prosecutor James Robinson said that the small amount had been noted but there was little choice but to prosecute El Meligy as he had four previous convictions for the same thing.

A probation report said he had recently taken up boxing and was living a more healthy lifestyle.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told El Meligy: ’You need to address your cannabis use. I am pleased to hear you are taking steps towards a more healthy lifestyle.’

He must also pay £125 prosecution costs.
