An 18-year-old who hid 42.1g of heroin in a coffee pot has admitted possession with intent to supply.

Sean Daniel Fitzpatrick, of Spectrum Apartments, Douglas, pleaded guilty when he appeared before magistrates on Thursday morning.

Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon said that on May 6, at 7.21am the police’s drug and organised crime unit carried out a search warrant on Fitzpatrick’s flat.

They found him asleep in the bedroom. Another person who was in the flat has not appeared before the court.

Ms Cubbon said that the search by officers uncovered a ’significant amount’ of the Class A drug diamorphine, namely heroin. It was found in a coffee jar inside a camouflaged pouch in 14 wraps.

Tests proved it to be 42.1g of heroin, giving it a street value of between £5,200 and £10,252.

During his interview and caution by police, Fitzpatrick gave ’no comment’ answers.

Magistrates agreed that their sentencing powers are insufficient for the matter, which could bring a term of between seven and nine years, so have referred Fitzpatrick to the Court of General Gaol.

Fitzpatrick was remanded at the prison and will next appear for a committal hearing on Monday, May 18.
