A 21-year-old man has been fined £350 for being drunk and disorderly.
James Gerard Maginn, of Oak Avenue, Douglas, admitted the offence and was also banned from entering licensed premises and buying or being sold alcohol for one month.
Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that police were called to Strand Street at 3.15am on February 14 after a report of two men fighting outside Marks and Spencer.
When they arrived they found Maginn and another man on the ground.
The pair said they were friends and were just ’messing about’, then hugged each other and said they were going home.
Police warned them about their behaviour but let them go.
However, 10 minutes later another report was received of a group of men fighting in Strand Street so police again went to investigate.
They found Maginn again involved and he was said to have blood on his face and was shouting and swearing, which led to him being arrested.
Defence advocate Peter Taylor asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea.
’He should heeded the police warning,’ said the advocate.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also ordered Maginn to pay £125 prosecution costs, which he will pay along with the fine, at a rate of £20 per week.
