A man who hit a man outside a Douglas pub has been fined £300.

Jason Farley Kelch, of Lord Street, Douglas, admitted common assault and was also ordered by magistrates to pay £50 compensation to his victim.

Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that Kelch had been involved in a disagreement with the man inside the Thirsty Pigeon pub on May 15 at 9.20pm.

The pair were then involved in a heated discussion outside the pub and Kelch was said to have punched the man in the face, though he claimed he had struck him with his forearm.

The victim was said to have suffered pain to his jaw as a result of the incident.

Kelch was interviewed at police headquarters and told police that he had consumed too much alcohol.

He said that he felt sick when shown CCTV footage of the incident.

Advocate Ian Kermode said: ’It was a single strike.

’He would say it was a forearm.

’He had been out with his son and went to a couple of pubs before arriving at the Thirsty Pigeon.

’He accepts he reacted inappropriately.

’There was no significant injury caused.’

Mr Kermode handed in a letter of apology from his client as well as references.

Magistrates also ordered Kelch to pay £50 prosecution costs.
