A Douglas man has been convicted of possessing an offensive weapon and provoking behaviour.

Glenn James Anderson, of Derby Road, pleaded guilty to both offences and will be sentenced on August 29 after the preparation of a probation report.

A charge of possessing a prohibited article in a public place was withdrawn by the prosecution.

Prosecutor Michael Jelski told the court how, on July 9 at 5.35am, Anderson entered the house of woman he knew in Belmont Terrace in Douglas and made threats to her while carrying a knife.

The woman said Anderson told her if she was male, he would have no problem sticking the knife in her.

He left the house but was later located by police. When police searched him, they found a small lock knife in the hood of his hooded top.

Anderson was arrested and taken to police headquarters where he answered ’no comment’ to all questions during an interview.

Mr Jelski submitted that the case was suitable to remain in summary court for sentencing.

The prosecutor added that the locking mechanism on the knife was found not to work, so it did not fulfill the definition of a lock knife necessary for the prohibited article charge.

Defending Anderson in court his advocate Paul Glover asked for a psychiatric report to be prepared before sentencing as he said his client had recently been given treatment for mental health issues.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes adjourned the case until sentencing and ordered that the psychiatric report be prepared.

An application to have a curfew extended was rejected by Mrs Hughes.

Bail continues in the sum with a curfew between 10pm and 7am and a condition to attend probation meetings.
