A 22-year-old Douglas man has been fined £250 for obstructing a drugs search.
Davis Keith Taylor, of Palatine Road, is currently serving a three-year jail term, imposed at the Court of General Gaol Delivery in November, for causing grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Prosecutor Mark Benson told the court how, on October 13 at 2.30pm, police were at Drury Terrace in Douglas on a unrelated matter.
Taylor was seen walking past and into a nearby lane.
There was said to be a strong smell of cannabis and police stopped Taylor.
Police said he appeared uncomfortable and startled and was told he was being detained.
As an officer put a hand on his shoulder Taylor was said to have run off but was caught shortly afterwards and arrested.
Representing him in court, advocate Rebecca Cubbon asked for credit to be given for her client’s early guilty plea.
Ms Cubbon said: ’Mr Taylor was in the area at the time and says that he had been searched six times that month alone with no drugs being found.
’It was getting tiresome for him and he got upset at being searched again. He got quite irritated and no drugs were found. He is apologetic.
’He says he had been informed the matter would not be before the court. We accept there are limited options due to him being in custody.
’This wasn’t a physical contact obstructing. He simply ran away.’
Taylor was ordered by magistrates to pay the £250 fine forthwith with 14 days in default of payment.
