A man has been jailed for 12 weeks and banned from driving for one year.
Paul James Galbraith, of Derby Road, Douglas, appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes charged with driving without due care and attention, with no insurance, failing to report a collision, failing to produce a driving licence and proof of his car ownership and driving with two tyres below the legal tread depth.
Galbraith, who was arrested in May 2019 for the offences, had denied all charges.
Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court last week that Galbraith was driving along Circular Road in Douglas on May 16 2019 at about 5.25pm, when he then turned onto Westmoreland Road and collided with a Jaguar.
He is then said to have given his details to the driver of the Jaguar before leaving with his licence plate left at the scene.
Police officers located Galbraith at 8.27pm behind a block of flats in Douglas, while he was attempting to repair his car.
He told officers: ’I was going to ring you. I was going to let someone take it for a test drive.’
Officers then discovered Galbraith’s black Volkswagen Golf had two tyres below the legal tread depth.
On May 17 2019 the accused was interviewed at police headquarters, cautioned and made no reply.
All matters at his summary trial were proved, except for the driving without insurance.
Mrs Hughes sentenced the defendant to 12 weeks in custody for his offences.
