Police have given more details about a firearms incident at the weekend.

A member of the public who was walking his dogs on private land in the Kirk Michael area reported hearing shooting close by.

Firearms officers were deployed to investigate following the call-out at about 12.30pm on Saturday (August 24).

They were operating in the vicinity of a campsite on the west side of Kirk Michael.

During the operation special permission was granted to use the police drone to assist in the search.

Police confirmed that no one was injured following the initial report.

They had initially posted on Facebook that the caller had nearly been hit by a gunshot.

A spokesman said: ’This was an isolated incident and police are currently investigating the matter to establish exactly what has occurred.’

Police seized a bolt-action fireamrm.

A male in his 50s is being spoken to as part of the investigation.

Police said he was lawfully on the land and has lawfully held firearms but their inquiries are looking into whether he was shooting in an appropriate place.
