A man who stole a friend’s bank card and used it to withdraw £250 has been fined.
Ryan Murphy, aged 23, of Nursery Avenue, Onchan, admitting using the card to withdraw £250 from a cash till on August 23.
He was fined £300 and ordered to pay £125 compensation when he appeared before magistrates for sentencing last week.
Prosecutor James Robinson told the court how Murphy was out drinking in Bordello’s nightclub on Loch Promenade in Douglas.
The complainant loaned Murphy £20 but as he was leaving he noticed his cash card was missing.
He checked his account and found £250 was missing.
CCTV footage showed Murphy visiting a cash till just after 1am.
Advocate Michael Mudge said that it was his client’s first appearance in a court and he was losing his good character as a result of the offence.
’Mr Murphy is extremely sorry and embarrassed to be here,’ said the advocate.
’The amounts are limited but it was a friend and that friendship has now been lost.’
Murphy was also ordered to pay £50 costs.
