Gavin James Laing, of Queen’s Road, was handed the 12-month order for each offence to run concurrently, as a direct alternative to eight weeks custody.
The 25-year-old was also banned from licensed premises for three months.
Defending Laing in court, his advocate Ian Kermode said: ’It is accepted Mr Laing was intoxicated having consumed six or seven pints of lager prior to being asked to leave the club.
’He would say he did feel a sense of injustice and did refuse to leave, and was abusive to staff.
’He couldn’t understand why he was being asked to leave but clearly his judgement was clouded by alcohol. It is accepted there was a struggle with police.
’He did accept in the police interview that his behaviour towards door staff was unacceptable.’
Mr Kermode added: ’He accepts when he goes out he has difficulty in limiting the amount of alcohol he consumes.
’He would work with probation in relation to that, learning to control his alcohol intake during a social night out.’
The court heard that Laing was studying aeronautical engineering at college in the island.
’He has good prospects with that course and does not wish to spoil that future,’ said Mr Kermode.
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes gave Laing credit for his early guilty plea and admissions made in police interview.
’I agree your offending has reduced,’ said Mrs Hughes.
’You have a good career ahead of you but employers will look twice at anyone who has a string of offences on their record.
’You need to remain offence free.’
Laing was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
