A 50-year-old man has been put on probation for being drunk and disorderly at Costa Coffee in Douglas.
Ralph Walker, of Derby Road, Douglas, admitted the offence, which was committed on January 2.
Walker was late arriving for court and said that he had overslept after being unable to sleep while in police cells the previous night.
The court heard that Walker was already the subject of a 18-month probation order imposed in March 2020 for possessing a prohibited article in a public place and common assault after an incident at the Co-op in Duke Street.
A probation report said that Walker had a long-standing issue with alcohol but was willing to work with Motiv8.
The report said that, although the previous probation order had been imposed in March, little work had been done due to Covid-19.
Defence advocate Peter Taylor said that sending Walker to prison would be little use to anyone and that probation was going out of their way to assist him.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told Walker: ’Take advantage of probation’s offer to help you.’
Mrs Hughes discharged the previous probation order and sentenced Walker to a new 18-month one for the latest offence as well as the previous ones.
An alcohol ban remains in force until July. No order for costs was made.
