A 25-year-old Douglas man has been sentenced to community service for being drunk and disorderly and breaching a licensing ban.
Anthony James Scaddan, of Ballafletcher Road, admitted going into Quids Inn, despite his ban, saying that he only went in to use the toilet.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes ordered him to do 60 hours of unpaid work and also converted outstanding fines from a previous offence into an additional 40 hours of community service.
Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon told the court that Scaddan was banned from entering licensed premises in January for 12 months.
However, on October 31 staff at Quids Inn called police saying that Scaddan had been ejected.
He had been recognised by the licensee but when challenged gave his name as Tony James.
It was claimed that Scaddan had told the licensee: ’I’m going to chin you,’ but he denied this.
When interviewed by police he handed in a prepared statement saying he entered the pub to use the toilets but when he came out friends had bought him a pint.
He said he had left the pub willingly and been waiting outside when he was told the police had been called.
Scaddan told police he had not threatened the licensee.
Defence advocate Stephen Wood said that his client was pleading guilty on that basis.
The court heard that the offence was committed while Scaddan is subject to a two-year probation order imposed in July.
Mr Wood said that Scaddan and his partner had split up after eight years together and he had taken the separation quite badly.
’He started drinking too much and realises he’s got to do something about it,’ said the advocate.
’He does seem to appreciate that, but the proof will be in the pudding and we hope he won’t be appearing before you for drink-related matters in the future.’
Mrs Hughes said that if she imposed any new fines it would result in Scaddan paying until 2021 at the current rate and decided to convert his outstanding fines to community service.
However, previous orders relating to payment of compensation remain in place.
