A 23-year-old man who smashed his then-partner’s Kindle and iPhone against a wall during two separate incidents has been fined £200.
Adam Lee Hine pleaded guilty to two counts of property damage with a third charge of assault causing actual bodily harm being withdrawn.
Magistrates also ordered him to pay £100 compensation for the Kindle and £180 for the iPhone.
Police could hear shouting and swearing from inside the property so they entered.
Hine’s girlfriend was inside and was described as visibly upset. She told police that Hine had smashed her Kindle against a wall during a verbal argument.
He was arrested and taken to police headquarters, where during an interview he said: ’I’ve done it.’
Another incident was reported to have taken place on New Year’s Day when Hine’s girlfriend said that he had broken her iPhone during another argument.
Hine told police that he had anger issues and blackouts that sometimes caused him to lose control.
The court heard that Hine is already subject to a combination order of 12 months of probation and 80 hours community service imposed in November last year for provoking behaviour and property damage after he broke a window at an ex-girlfriend’s home.
Defence advocate Ian Kermode asked magistrates to either impose a financial penalty or extend his client’s community service hours.
Mr Kermode said that Hine had so far completed 48 hours out of the 80 and had been engaging well with probation.
The advocate said: ’When Mr Hine is frustrated with relationship issues he gets angry and it is in that context he’s been throwing these devices against the wall.
’The complainant was not physically harmed. It is not a case where there was any pre-meditation. They were spur of the moment, loss of control incidents.
’The relationship is over.’
Mr Kermode went on to ask for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea and admissions to the police.
Magistrates also ordered Hine to pay prosecution costs of £125, which he will pay along with the fine and compensation, at a rate of £100 per month.
