A benefit fraudster who stole £4,671 from the public purse has appeared in court.
Jamie Paul Stewart, of Mona Drive, Douglas, admitted the offence and will be sentenced on February 22 after the preparation of a probation report.
The court heard how, in August 2016, Stewart was claiming incapacity benefit due to back pain.
However, a member of the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) saw Stewart working on a building site and inquiries revealed he had been working for a building company.
The company confirmed Stewart worked from January 2017 to August 2017 but still receiving benefits.
He was said to have earned between £81 and £483 per week during that time and received a total of £5,686 while working at the company.
When interviewed Stewart said that he had not read the declarations he had signed.
He confirmed he had been working as a labourer saying that he had debt problems and needed the money.
He said he could not remember the dates he worked and that it was varying hours.
Stewart said he would pay back any overpayment.
The case was adjourned with bail granted in the sum of £500.
