A 42-year-old man from Glen Maye has been fined £150 after admitting driving without tax.

Edward Michael Lewin, of The Lharghan, will pay the fine at a rate of £5 per week.

Two other charges against him, of provoking behaviour and careless driving, which he had denied, were dismissed after a statement was retracted.

A trial which was due to take place on July 15 but has not been vacated.

Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court how police were called to Ridgeway Street in Douglas on October 19 last year due to the two allegations which Lewin denied.

The tax for his car was found to have expired 12 months previously.

Lewin did not attend court but Ms Carroon said it was unclear if he knew about the date.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes agreed to sentence him in his absence.

The court heard that he had two previous similar motoring offences.

Paul Rodgers represented Lewin in court and asked for the fine to be payable at a rate of £5 per week as his client was currently receiving benefits.

No order for prosecution costs was made.
