A 25-year-old Ramsey man has admitted possessing £69,200-worth of heroin with intent to supply.

Nile Paul Hughes, also known as Crowe, was arrested with a rucksack containing 276 grams of the class A drug.

He was committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery for sentencing after magistrates declined summary court jurisdiction.

Prosecuting advocate Rachael Braidwood told the court that Hughes was arrested on July 21 at 3.30pm while he was in a car at Bride Road in Ramsey.

A rucksack containing the drug was found in the car along with scales and a blender which it was suspected was for mixing the drug to increase the value.

Ms Braidwood submitted that the case should go to the higher court for sentencing.

David Reynolds represented Hughes in court and agreed that his client should be committed for sentencing.

Mr Reynolds asked for a probation report to be prepared before sentencing and also said that a psychiatric report may be required.

Sentencing will take place on August 5 at the Court of General Gaol Delivery.

No bail application was made and Hughes is remanded in custody.
