A 33-year-old man who smashed a window at a flat in what he said was a revenge attack has been convicted of property damage.
Matthew David Joseph Prendergast admitted the offence and will be sentenced on September 17 after a probation report has been completed.
Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that police were called to a flat in Mona Street in Douglas on July 21 at 5.37pm.
A report had been received of five men outside the flat, one with a bat.
A window in the ground floor flat had been smashed.
Prendergast, of Wesley Terrace, Douglas, was spoken to by police at his home and arrested after he was identified as the man with the bat.
The court heard that the offence puts Prendergast in breach of a suspended sentence.
Defence advocate Paul Rodgers asked for a probation report to be compiled before sentencing.
Mr Rodgers said: ’Mr Prendergast says that a rock was thrown through his window and individuals threatened him.
’He reacted to it but accepts he should not have done that.’
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes ordered that the probation report consider all options including custody but ruled that sentencing would take place in summary court.
Bail continues with a condition to contact probation.
