A man who stole a friend’s bank card on a night out has been fined £200.

Warren Phillip Molesworth, aged 31, of Mona Drive, Douglas, admitted an offence of theft and was also ordered to pay £25 compensation to his victim.

On a previous court appearance 23-year-old Ryan Murphy, of Nursery Avenue, Onchan, was fined £300 for his part in the offence.

Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon told the court that the victim had been out in Bordellos nightclub with Molesworth and Murphy on August 23.

At the end of the night the victim noticed his bank card was missing and confronted the two men.

Molesworth admitted they had taken it but ran off and got in a taxi.

The pair were said to have taken £250 out of the man’s account during the course of the night.

The following day Molesworth paid back £100 to the man, leaving £25, half of the £250 unpaid.

Murphy and Molesworth were arrested and CCTV footage showed them at the cash till at the time the money had been withdrawn.

Defence advocate Paul Rodgers said: ’All parties had consumed a lot of drink. The aggrieved had been very generous in buying them drinks.

’Mr Molesworth realised the error of his ways the next morning and paid money back. It was a significant error of judgement.’

Magistrates also ordered Molesworth to pay £50 prosecution costs.
